Employment and Volunteer Opportunities

The Center for Immigrant Healthcare Justice always welcomes volunteers and interns to its staff year-round.

Volunteers

Volunteers will help us with our day-to-day responsibilities in the office and can also help us with advocacy or educational events that we host within the community. Some of these responsibilities can include assisting with data entry and regular maintenance of the CIHJ national database, assisting with website maintenance, or assisting with various office tasks as needed. Those interested in a particular project are also welcomed to contact us to discuss possible collaborations. Please send an email to message@cihj.org with the following information:

? Why you are interested in working with CIHJ
? How did you hear about us
? What you would like to do with us as a volunteer, and
? Your availability

Interns

Those interested in applying for internships with CIHJ are invited to apply for the spring, summer, or fall semesters (or for those on the quarter systems, the spring, summer, fall or winter quarters). Key responsibilities can include conducting research online to identify potential organizational partners, tracking relevant budget and healthcare legislation, drafting monthly email newsletters, helping to devise advocacy and educational strategic plans, and recruiting and supervising volunteers. Help with day-to-day responsibilities in the office will also comprise a small part of the intern's duties. Those interested in a particular project are also welcomed to contact us to discuss possible collaborations.

Because we are a small non-profit organization, interns will be given significant and meaningful work and will be expected to function independently and with self-initiative. Prospective interns do not need to have experience in health care or advocacy, but an interest in these fields and a willingness to learn on the job are required.

To apply, please send an email to message@cihj.org with a cover letter and a resume. The cover letter should include the following:

? Why you are interested in working with CIHJ
? What you would like to do with us as an intern, and
? What skills you believe you could bring to CIHJ

What previous interns have said:

"Interning with the Center for Immigrant Healthcare Justice has been a fantastic opportunity for me to work in an advocacy setting and be able to put political theory into practice. Not only have I been able to work with a great group of people, but I have learned a lot about healthcare, immigration, advocacy, and nonprofit management. I would wholeheartedly recommend CIHJ for any students wishing to advocate for an important cause."
-Ryan Dykhouse, summer 2010 intern

"When you intern with CIHJ, you don't feel like an intern. The learning curve is quick and sudden, and even after a week you find yourself knowing more about health care, advocacy and legislation that you ever thought possible. You find yourself doing meaningful work for an organization filled with passionate people, and you are even given the opportunity to take on relevant projects on your own."
-Tiffany Yang, summer 2010 intern
